Wellness Policy


The OUSD Student Wellness Policy focuses on nutrition and physical education.  

Foods and beverages sold to students through the district’s child nutrition program, student stores, vending machines and fundraisers meet or exceed state and federal nutrition standards. Nutrition education is provided as a part of the district’s health education program.

Make Money for King Every Time You Grocery Shop!!!

Dear Parents and Staff,

Here is an easy way for our school to make money, and it doesn't cost you a thing!  We all have to eat, so we are asking you to register your Ralph's grocery store cards (and Von's, Macy's, or other participating merchant cards ~ see the Escrip merchant list).  Tell everyone you know to register theirs as well.  All you have to do is take a few minutes to register, then use your cards when you shop!!!

Aqui estan unas maneras de recaudar dinero para la escuela.  Si tienen una tarjeta de las tiendas Ralph's o Von's, estamos pidiendo que registren su tarjeta en el internet.  Solamente tienen que registrarla y usarla cuando vayan de compras.

All schools and offices in the Oceanside Unified School District will be closed the week of April 6-10 for the annual spring break holiday. Campuses and office sites will re-open during their normal business hours on Monday, April 13.

New State Testing Period Underway District-Wide


Students in grades 3-8, and 11, are now taking part in the new California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASP) online testing program. These new exams will be administered during the next two months and replace the longtime STAR tests students have taken in previous years. The CAASP exam covers computer adaptive tests in English/Language Arts, mathematics, and a traditional paper-based science evaluation.

Cox Communications continues to partner with the Computers 2 San Diego Kids (C2SDK) Foundation to expand their successful Connect2Compete (C2C) program. This program allows eligible families to purchase a professionally refurbished computers from $50-$80, depending on display/monitor model, and home internet access from Cox Communications for $10/month. We have scheduled a distribution event below.

Junior National Honor Society

MLK is now recruiting for our prestigious Junior National Honor Society program. Seventh grade students with a 3.85 or higher who are interested in this leadership and service opportunity may apply. Please pick up an application from Mrs. Parker in E2. Applications are due March 13th.

Host Students and Families Needed for German Student Visit in May

MLK has invited 25 students and two teachers from Joseph-Bernhart school in Türkheim, Germany for a fantastic California adventure. We are in need of host families for the visiting German students! This is a great opportunity for our MLK students and families to make new friends and learn about another country. The dates of visit are from May 22 to June 2. The San Diego County Office of Health and Human Services has verified several reported cases of measles throughout the county. Please know that NO cases of this highly contagious viral infection have been reported in the Oceanside Unified School District.

New District Student Absence Policy

Attention Parents:

The  OUSD Board of Education amended administrative regulation 5113(a) effective August 26th, 2014 regarding student absences. The policy now reads, "Absences must be cleared within 5 school days after the student returns to school."  

In accordance with this new policy, please make sure that you clear your student's absence within five (5) school days after their return. To report your child's absence please call our attendance line at 760-901-8801. Just a reminder in order to excuse your child's tardy it must be for medical reasons.
