Young Writers' Camp
This summer, Oceanside Unified School District and the National Writing Project at CSUSM will partner to offer a Young Writer’s Camp to students entering the sixth, seventh, and eighth grade next fall from June 9-13, 2014. During camp, students will examine and experience the writing process, meet and collaborate with a local published author, and present their work at an Open Mic celebration. The camp’s goal is to inspire students to develop their own writing craft. This will be the only Young Writer’s Camp offered in Oceanside! For more information, please contact Melanie Stone at 760-901-8897.

promotion and end of year activities expectations
Dear Parents and Eighth Grade Students,
Believe it or not, it’s time to start planning the end of the year activities for our eighth grade students. As we begin our second semester of the 2013-14 school year, we should all be reminded how exciting this time of year is for all our students, but especially our eighth graders. Eighth grade students will be excited about the beach bash and promotion, as well as moving to the high school.
Traditionally at this time a year, we find that many of our students start to lose interest in schoolwork and increase their interest in socialization. However, it is King's expectation that all students continue to follow the district, school, and classroom policies that were set forth at the beginning of this school year and reinforced throughout. In order to ensure that all students are prepared for promotion and the beach bash, we decided to start early and remind often!
The end of the year activities have a criteria that must be met by May 1, 2014. Students who do not meet the criteria will not be allowed to attend promotion or end of the year events. Letters have been mailed home to the families of all 8th grade students. For a copy of the letter in English and Spanish, click HERE. This letter outlines the criteria that have been established for promotion and Beach Bash, including a GPA requirement and dress code. It is important that EVERYONE understand what our expectations are. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact an administrator or counselor.
OPD Traffic News
OPD officers are in the area of the school at both drop off and dismissal times in an effort to ensure the safe travel of all students. Please abide by the traffic laws and posted zones, show respect for school staff, and be courteous drivers. The safety of all of the children is our primary concern.
We are also continuing to get reports of parents dropping off their students in the middle of traffic and kids running between vehicles! This creates a very unsafe situation and a student will be hurt.
Would you like to see your student's name up in lights? You can now request a birthday message on our new marquee. Click HERE for the order form and all of the information. You can also place your orders online at our Webstore. If you have any questions, you can contact Stephanie in our Student Store at 760-901-8824.
