Wellness Policy


The OUSD Student Wellness Policy focuses on nutrition and physical education.  

Foods and beverages sold to students through the district’s child nutrition program, student stores, vending machines and fundraisers meet or exceed state and federal nutrition standards. Nutrition education is provided as a part of the district’s health education program.

Make Money for King Every Time You Grocery Shop!!!

Dear Parents and Staff,

Here is an easy way for our school to make money, and it doesn't cost you a thing!  We all have to eat, so we are asking you to register your Ralph's grocery store cards (and Von's, Macy's, or other participating merchant cards ~ see the Escrip merchant list).  Tell everyone you know to register theirs as well.  All you have to do is take a few minutes to register, then use your cards when you shop!!!

New District Absence produres

Attention Parents:

The OUSD Board of Education amended administrative regulation 5113(a) effective August 26th, 2014 regarding student absences. The policy now reads, "Absences must be cleared within 5 school days after the student returns to school."  

In accordance with this new policy, please make sure that you clear your student's absence within five (5) school days after their return. To report your child's absence please call our attendance line at 760-901-8801. Just a reminder in order to excuse your child's tardy it must be for medical reasons. 


We will be closed for the summer from June 17th-July 31st. 

We will return on August 1st.

Aeries Data Confirmation Delay

The Aeries Data Confirmation process has been delayed. The district hopes to have your parent portals open by Wednesday, July 27th, or Thursday, July 28th.

We appreciate your patience in this matter.

All returning students must go on to the parent portal and data confirm and make any changes. The window for online data confirmation will open on July 28th. You will need to confirm the data confirmation for the 2016-2017 school year. Simply complete the process online, print your 2016-2017 Emergency Card and bring two proof of residencies to Lion Camp. Returning students and students coming to us from an Oceanside elementary school may confirm their data by going to your on Aeries Parent Portal. 


New students to the district:

Please register at Once you register you will need to create a parent portal in Aeries in order to continue the online process. **You will need to call the school to get the student ID and verification code for Aeries in order to continue with the data confirmation. Once you have confirmed the data you will need to print and bring the signed 2016-2017 Emergency Card along with the following required documents. The enrollment forms from the online registration, Birth Certificate, shot record, 2 proofs of address, and the last semester report card. **Important Please make sure to put a home number when registering your child for the 1st time as a new student because the system will not allow you to continue creating a parent portal account.


Parents who have returning students to King or any OUSD Student, you will need to create a parent portal in order to do the online data confirmation.

Lion camp 2016-2017

Lion Camp Dates and Times for the 2016-2017 School Year


8th Grade Thursday, August 4th 8:00 am-12:00 pm

7th Grade Friday, August 5th 8:00 am-12:00 pm 

6th Grade, Monday, August 8th 8:00 am-12:00 pm

Make-Up Day Tuesday, August 9th 11:00 am-1:00 pm


During Lion Camp, your child will turn in their data confirmation forms, take his or her I.D. photo, collect textbooks, and purchase supplies at the student store.  Please allow between 1 ½ to 2 hours to complete the Lion Camp process. In an effort to minimize your wait time, please adhere to the schedule below and bring all required documentation with you. Your student will not be allowed to take their I.D. picture or pick up textbooks until having completed Station 1.

8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.                       (Last names beginning with letters A – F)

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.                     (Last names beginning with letters G - L)

10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.                   (Last names beginning with letters M – R)

11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.                   (Last names beginning with letters S – Z)

Station 1:

  • Data confirmation forms collected. Parents of returning students and students coming to us from an Oceanside elementary school must confirm their data on their parent portal account on Aeries. The window for online data confirmation will open July 27th.  Simply complete the process online, print your 2016-2017 Emergency Card and bring it to Lion Camp.
  • Address verification (two proofs of address are required):  Acceptable proofs of residency include:  utility bills, mortgage statements, rental agreements, cable bills, homeowner or renter insurance or any document which has a service address tied to the residence.   Cell phone bills, auto insurance, bank statements and driver’s licenses are not acceptable proofs of residency.
  • If applicable, Shared Residency verification:  If your student was on a shared residency during the 2015 – 2016 school year, in order to continue on a shared residency for the 2016 – 2017 school year, you must renew your shared residency form at the Educational Support Services (ESS) Building located at 2080 Mission Avenue. You must bring a new shared residency form, which can be found online at under the Student Services tab or is available at the ESS.  This form must be signed and accompanied by two proofs of residency in the name of the person who signed the form in section B. This must be done prior to completing the registration process at the school site.
  • If applicable, approved School of Choice or Inter-district applications verification
  • Tdap immunization verified (7th grade students only)

2017 Washington DC Trip

Trip dates:  April 8 – April 12, 2017 (Spring Break)

If you register before June 17, 2016, you will save $120 on the cost of the trip and $50 on registration fees. It will also give your student the opportunity to earn money over the summer towards the cost of the trip. Payment plans are available!

Please call the 1-800-468-5899 to see if you qualify for the FLAG scholarship.  Families with annual adjusted gross incomes up to $85,000 may qualify. You do NOT need to be registered to inquire.

In November we will have a fundraiser to further help towards the expense of the trip.

King Parents-

We are excited to offer you a new morning student drop off option. Due to parent feedback concerning traffic issues on Ivey Ranch Road near, the front of the school, King will be emending its traffic plan with the city.

Starting Januarys 4th, we will be opening the gate on Mesa drive near the edge of the tennis courts. Parents will be able to park along the west side of Mesa drive, and students may enter at the “tennis court gate”. There will be a Security guard manning this gate from 7am until 730am Monday through Friday.

The West side of Mesa drive provides ample pull-in and pull-out space so please avoid the traffic on Ivey Ranch at the front of school by dropping your student at the new entry gate starting January 4th.
