INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS

Lion Camp Information

paw.jpgLion Camp will take place before school starts, beginning with 6th grade on August 6th, 7th grade on August 7th, and 8th grade on August 11th from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.  This is when your student will take school pictures and receive their ID card, checkout textbooks, purchase supplies and PE clothes, and turn in the Data Confirmation page for online registration.  Students with last names A - H will arrive at 8:00 am, I - P at 10:00 am, and Q - Z at 1:00 pm.  Makeup Day will take place on August 12th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm for any students who could not make their scheduled date.  The 2014 - 15 school year will begin on August 18th at 7:30 am.

Online Data Confirmation Window Opens Again on August 1st

Register Online.jpgAll students must register for school each year. This year is the first year that the Oceanside Unified School District is streamlining the process by allowing online data confirmation/registration. The window for online data confirmation will open again August 1st.  Simply complete the process online and print your 2014-2015 Final Confirmation page and send it with your student at Lion Camp. Returning students and students coming to us from an Oceanside elementary school may confirm their data by going to your parent portal on Aeries.  New students to the district can register at http://registration.oside.us/.  If you have any questions, we will be in the office until June 16 and return again on August 1st.

Quantum Learning Youth Success Summit

We want to invite you to be part of something new—a Youth Success Summit for 6th to 8th grade students and incoming freshmen this July 28th to July 31st in Oceanside, California, here at the Quantum Learning campus. This four-day program is modeled off our student development programs that are currently taking place in schools across the country.  Click HERE for a flyer with additional details. You can also visit http://www.quantumlearning.com/oceanside-summit for more information.

OPD Traffic News

traffic.jpgOPD officers are in the area of the school at both drop off and dismissal times in an effort to ensure the safe travel of all students.  Please abide by the traffic laws and posted zones, show respect for school staff, and be courteous drivers.  The safety of all of the children is our primary concern.

  • The bike lane was modified along Mesa Drive to allow for more parking along the north side of the road.  This parking area is not being used and is available to ease drop off and pick up of students.  This is a less congested alternative to the busy MLK park parking lots.
  • The “right turn on red” ability from westbound Mesa to northbound Via Rancho is now restricted during student drop off times.  Violations will be enforced, and tickets will be issued.
  • Please respect the red curb lines and do not park there to pick up or drop off a student.  This includes the driveways to the church.
  • Please respect the direction of school security staff as they try to assist students in using the crosswalks.  Do not block the crosswalks.  Additional crosswalks have been added on the access streets near the school.  Tickets may be issued any time you are blocking a crosswalk.

We are also continuing to get reports of parents dropping off their students in the middle of traffic and kids running between vehicles!  This creates a very unsafe situation and a student will be hurt.

Marquee Requests

marquee.jpgWould you like to see your student's name up in lights?  You can now request a birthday message on our new marquee.  Click HERE for the order form and all of the information.  You can also place your orders online at our Webstore.  If you have any questions, you can contact Stephanie in our Student Store at 760-901-8824.

Make Money for King Every Time You Grocery Shop!!!

Dear Parents and Staff,

Here is an easy way for our school to make money, and it doesn't cost you a thing!  We all have to eat, so we are asking you to register your Ralph's grocery store cards (and Von's, Macy's, or other participating merchant cards ~ see the Escrip merchant list).  Tell everyone you know to register theirs as well.  All you have to do is take a few minutes to register, then use your cards when you shop!!!

Estimados padres,

Common Core Parent Information

CommonCoreLogo-color2.jpgCalifornia is one of 45 states nationwide to adopt the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English/Language Arts and mathematics.   This shift in teaching has been characterized by some as “the most significant change to classroom instruction since 1998,” when California first adopted its own academic standards.  Click the Common Core link above to learn more about the standards and how the Oceanside Unified School District is implementing Common Core in the classroom.
