Welcome to King Middle School Home of the Lions!
Welcome to King Middle School where we are working to create a safe haven for students in a college bound school culture. Working together with parents, we are confident that we can ensure both the safety of every student and each student’s academic success. Our number one priority will be to continue transforming the "culture" of our school where students are safe, challenged, supported, engaged and successful.
All students will demonstrate their thinking, both verbally and in writing, to show understanding of their learning.

OPD Traffic News
OPD officers are in the area of the school at both drop off and dismissal times in an effort to ensure the safe travel of all students. Please abide by the traffic laws and posted zones, show respect for school staff, and be courteous drivers. The safety of all of the children is our primary concern.
We are also continuing to get reports of parents dropping off their students in the middle of traffic and kids running between vehicles! This creates a very unsafe situation and a student will be hurt.
R.O.A.R. brings together students, teachers, and parents for a common mission - read a good book, talk about it, and go have an “experience” to celebrate the completion of the book and connect it to current day life. R.O.A.R. provides a parent-teacher-student mentoring opportunity, as well as enables the development of personal values, which includes a strong bond between school and home. Books have been chosen based on the school district focus on nonfiction literature and the activities supporting the reading will create opportunities for all participants to infer, compare and contrast, and create opinions to show their understanding of the literature. In addition, the “experience” will challenge participants to synthesize the reading to have a clearer understanding about what the lead characters may have experienced.
Fall R.O.A.R. main selection – Lost Star: The Story of Amelia Earhart, 112 pages. Click HERE for flyer and registration form.

Fall “experience” – Field trip to San Diego Air and Space Museum in December, special exhibit includes artifacts from Amelia Earhart

California is one of 45 states nationwide to adopt the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English/Language Arts and mathematics. This shift in teaching has been characterized by some as “the most significant change to classroom instruction since 1998,” when California first adopted its own academic standards. Click the Common Core link above to learn more about the standards and how the Oceanside Unified School District is implementing Common Core in the classroom.
