Make Money for King Every Time You Grocery Shop!!!
Dear Parents and Staff,
Here is an easy way for our school to make money, and it doesn't cost you a thing! We all have to eat, so we are asking you to register your Ralph's grocery store cards (and Von's, Macy's, or other participating merchant cards ~ see the Escrip merchant list). Tell everyone you know to register theirs as well. All you have to do is take a few minutes to register, then use your cards when you shop!!!

With more than 22 million people living and working in this region of the country, the district wants to emphasize the importance of being prepared should a catastrophic earthquake ever strike. On Thursday, October 20th at approximately 10:20am, the OUSD (this includes all support buildings), along with a number of city and county agencies, will take part in the Great Southern California ShakeOut, the largest earthquake drill in U.S. history.
The purpose of the ShakeOut is to help everyone understand what to do and what to expect during such a catastrophe. As part of this important drill, all of our schools will practice what is commonly referred to as “Drop, Cover, and Hold On,” an exercise designed to protect students and staff from injury during an earthquake.

The Outsiders Day, on October 31, is the culminating activity to the students completing the novel The Outsiders by SE Hinton. The kids LOVE this book. The 8th graders will follow a special schedule, rotating through 7 stations, from 7:30 am – 11:15 am, including:
1. Creating a Facebook page for one of the characters – hosted by Math Department
2. Dances of the time period
3. Dodgeball – hosted by the PE Department - to simulate the two rival gangs in the story
4. Car Show – we expect 10-15 cars on display
5. Historical Perspective – hosted by the History Department - The Space Race/Fashion of the time
6. Under the influence – hosted by SRO (you) – connecting to the use of alcohol in the book
7. Science of Smoking – hosted by the Science Department – connecting to the use of tobacco in the book
The students will end their day with the showing of the Outsiders movie in the MPR.

We are excited to offer you a new morning student drop off option. Due to parent feedback concerning traffic issues on Ivey Ranch Road near, the front of the school, King will be emending its traffic plan with the city.
Starting Januarys 4th, we will be opening the gate on Mesa drive near the edge of the tennis courts. Parents will be able to park along the west side of Mesa drive, and students may enter at the “tennis court gate”. There will be a Security guard manning this gate from 7am until 730am Monday through Friday.
The West side of Mesa drive provides ample pull-in and pull-out space so please avoid the traffic on Ivey Ranch at the front of school by dropping your student at the new entry gate starting January 4th.
